A male leopard, aged around six years, that was captured after it allegedly attacked livestock in forest fringe areas of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve died on Saturday morning (March 28, 2026) despite treatment. Forest Department officials said the animal had been frequenting villages along the forest boundaries in the T.N. Palayam Range under the Sathyamangalam Forest Division, causing losses to farmers by preying on cattle. Based on instructions from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, a cage was placed to capture the animal. The leopard was trapped on March 26 in the Vilankombai patrol limits in the Kadambur Section.
