Pawan Kalyan on Friday raised concern in the Legislative Assembly about the growing pendency of court cases and the need to strengthen the judicial system. He emphasised on improving the court infrastructure, reducing litigation through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and using technology to ensure faster justice delivery. Participating in a discussion on the Appropriation Bills, Mr. Kalyan said more than 1.11 crore civil cases and 3.80 crore criminal cases were pending in courts across the country, affecting millions of families. He stressed the need to improve basic amenities in courts, including toilets, rest rooms and drinking water. He informed the House that Governor S. Abdul Nazeer suggested to him during a recent meeting that the Legislature should contribute to reducing the immense caseloads on judges and making the courts better places both for the judges and the litigant public. The A.P. Legislature should, therefore, help the judiciary in promoting the ADR mechanisms and provide them advanced technologies like videoconferencing, automated case management, and digital systems to speed up trials. These measures would significantly ease the burden on the judges, he noted.
