Leaders of the Puducherry unit of the CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and CPI(ML) met here on Tuesday (February 10, 2026) and decided to extend support to the all-India strike on February 12 in protest against the “anti-working class” and “anti-farmer” policies of the Union government.

Addressing a joint press conference, CPI secretary A.M. Saleem said agitations will be held at nine places in Puducherry on Thursday. Congress and DMK leaders have expressed their willingness to participate in the protests, he added.

The CPI secretary said that besides party functionaries, hundreds of workers and farmers would participate in the agitations. There are around 5 lakh people working in the unorganised sector in the Union Territory, and the AINRC-BJP government has failed to provide social security to the workers, he said.

The leaders demanded the regularisation of contract teachers and employees of various public sector units. Former legislator Nara Kalainathan, CPI(M) leader V. Perumal, CPI(ML) leader Balasubramanian, and VCK principal secretary Arima Tamizhan were at the press conference.
