The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won the local body election to the Onakkoor ward in Pampakuda panchayat in Ernakulam district of Kerala.

C.B. Rajeev of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) won the seat with a majority of 221 votes as the counting of votes was held on Tuesday (January 13, 2026). He secured 558 votes, while his rival Jose T.P. of the United Democratic Front garnered 337 votes.

Onakkoor was the only ward in Ernakulam district where the election had to be rescheduled. The postponement was necessitated by the sudden death of UDF candidate C.S. Babu in the early hours of December 9, the polling day.

The ward recorded a voter turnout of 81.74% in the election held on Monday. Out of the total of 1,183 voters, 965 cast their votes – 487 men and 478 women.

However, the LDF’s win will not alter the electoral scenario in the Pampakuda panchayat as the UDF had won nine of the 15 wards in the panchayat in the Kerala local body polls held in December 2025. With the victory in the ward, the Left front’s tally has now gone up to five seats in the panchayat.

The Onakkoor ward was won by the LDF in the 2020 local body elections as well.
