A large number of people turned up for the ‘Swachhata Marathon’ organised by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 on Sunday.

Nearly four thousand participants competed in 3,000 metres, 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres runs organised for different categories during the Swachhata Marathon, which was flagged off from the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near Mysuru Palace early on Sunday morning.

Minister in charge of Mysuru district H. C. Mahadevappa flagged off the event in the presence of Krishnaraja Assembly constituency MLA T.S. Srivatsa, noted sculptor Arun Yogiraj and other dignitaries.

Mr. Mahadevappa said the city had already earned national recognition twice as a clean city. “This time, we must strive to secure the top rank again and bring another award to Mysuru”, he said.

Mr. Arun Yogiraj encouraged participants by saying that staying active and spending time in the fields helps people maintain good health.

Prizes, medals, and certificates were distributed to winners in various categories by Mr. Arun Yogiraj, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, and other dignitaries.

A statement issued by the MCC Commissioner said the marathon was conducted as an eco-friendly event with the generation of only 473 kg of wet waste.
