A large number of devotees thronged Srirangam and pulled the temple car of the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple here on Saturday as part of the “Bhoopathi Thirunal” festival held in the Tamil month of Thai.

Sri Namperumal, processional deity of the temple, along with Ubhaya Nachiyars were taken out in a procession in the early hours to the Thai Ther Mandapam where rituals were performed. After completion of all rituals, the decorated Thai Ther with the deities began its procession around 6 a.m.

Devotees, who came from different parts of Tiruchi and other places of the State, pulled the temple car amid chants of ‘Ranga Ranga’. Many devotees, who came from Srirangam to visit Sri Ranganathaswamy from different parts of the country, took part in the festival. It went around the four ‘Uthira Veedhis’ and returned to the base (Nilai) at around 9.15 a.m.

The 11-day festival began on January 23 with the flag hoisting. It concludes on Sunday.
