The complaint, filed by Police Constable Shanmukha (PC 22318), stated that on March 21, 2026, the luxury car bearing registration number KA-05 NR 0009 was seen driving rashly around 2.40 a.m. at Anil Kumble Circle under Cubbon Park Traffic Police limits. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Cubbon Park Traffic Police Station under Crime No. 45/2026. The vehicle was seized and entered under PF No. 08/2026 for further investigation. During the probe, police sought verification from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Bengaluru South. Authorities informed that the ‘fancy number’ KA-05 NR 0009 had not been officially allotted to any vehicle. Investigations revealed that Ricky Rai had purchased the Lamborghini Huracán, originally registered in Delhi (DL 1 CT 1515), but had not completed its re-registration in Karnataka, as mandated by law. Instead, he allegedly installed a counterfeit number plate with a premium registration number. Police said the fake number plate was used to evade identification while committing traffic violations, and potentially for other unlawful activities. Based on the findings, Cubbon Park Traffic Police have booked Ricky Rai under Sections 318(4) (cheating), 340(2) (use of forged document as genuine), and 341 (possession of counterfeit instruments for forgery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Following the seizure of the vehicle, Ricky Rai, through his advocates, challenged the police action stating that he was not driving the car. The driver of the car had not performed any stunt, but was only negotiating a bad patch of road, the advocate told the media, adding that the driver should be appreciated instead of being punished.
