Following the directives of the Election Commission of India regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the final voter list for Kollam district has been officially released. The publication comes after a rigorous process of claims and objections that concluded on January 30, 2026. According to the final data released this Saturday, the district now has a total of 20,76,671 registered voters. This figure includes 9,92,443 men, 10,84,207 women, and 21 transgender voters.
The revision process saw a significant shift from the initial figures recorded in late 2025. On October 27, 2025, the district had 21,44,527 voters, but the subsequent draft list published on December 23, 2025, showed a reduction to 19,83,885 voters. During the enumeration phase of SIR 2026, authorities removed a total of 1,60,642 names from the list due to various factors categorized under ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead) and duplicates. This included 49,283 deceased voters, 39,667 untraceable individuals, 54,089 voters who had permanently shifted residency, 10,432 duplicate enrollments, and 7,171 cases cited under other reasons.
To ensure the accuracy of the electoral roll, election officials conducted extensive hearings for 2,52,722 cases, which included 1,53,927 voters who could not be mapped during the SIR process and 98,795 cases involving logical discrepancies. After a thorough verification of supporting documents, 2,48,976 eligible voters were reinstated into the final list. However, 3,746 individuals were disqualified during these hearings on grounds of death, double enrollment, or holding foreign citizenship.
Voters who have been disqualified or have grievances regarding the final list have been provided with a structured appeal process. A first appeal can be submitted to the District Election Officer within 15 days of receiving the order, while a second appeal can be filed with the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days. The Electoral Registration Officers will now hand over the constituency-wise final voter lists to all recognized political parties to ensure transparency and preparedness for future electoral exercises.
