A clutch of major infrastructure projects, including the four-laning of MC Road and the Sabari Rail project, will be funded through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

A KIIFB board meeting held on Friday gave its in-principle nod for providing funding to the tune of ₹5,217 crore for the four-laning of the Kesavadasapuram-Angamaly MC Road, ₹1,900 crore for the Angamaly-Erumely Sabari Rail project and ₹600 crore for the Aerospace Control Systems Complex proposed under KSpace.

These were among 11 projects worth ₹8,081 crore which were granted in-principle nod and 14 other projects worth ₹689 crore granted financial approval at the 56th board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

With this, the financial heft of projects granted approval under KIIFB has touched ₹1.10 lakh crore, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said at a press conference here.

The Cabinet meeting held on February 4 had decided that the State would bear half the cost — ₹ 1,900 crore — of the Sabari Rail project. The four-laning of MC Road and the Aerospace Control Systems Complex project were announced in the 2026-27 State Budget.

In-principle approval has also been granted for the procurement of medical equipment for hospitals (₹210.51 crore), Phase I development of the Conolly Canal in Kozhikode (₹73.21 crore) and infrastructure development of the K.R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (₹26.59 crore).

Among the 14 projects granted financial approval are the Work Near Home: Skill Ecosystem 2.0 project ( ₹153 crore ), the development of the General Hospital, Thrissur (₹136.79 crore ) and infrastructure development of the Mental Health Centre in Thiruvananthapuram ( ₹ 87.68 crore), Mr. Balagopal said.

Majority of the projects in this category, worth ₹282.98 crore, come under Public Works, and Health and Family Welfare (₹224.47 crore).

So far, KIIFB has given financial approval for 1,237 projects worth ₹98,836.83 crore and in-principle nod “subject to conditions” for 11 projects worth ₹8,081 crore.
