Khandre honoured in Bidar after elevation as national president of Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha

A large felicitation programme was organised in Bidar on Sunday (March 22, 2026) to honour Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre following his election as the 24th national president of the Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha, with religious leaders, politicians and community members hailing his leadership and contributions to society.

The event, held at the Karnataka Pharmacy College grounds, drew a large gathering of supporters, seers and public representatives from across the region. Prior to the programme, Mr. Khandre paid floral tributes to statues of B.R. Ambedkar, Basavanna and Bommagondeshwara in the city and participated in a grand procession through Bidar, which saw enthusiastic participation by youths and cultural troupes.

Speaking at the function, Siddharoodha Mutt seer Shivakumar Swamiji described Mr. Khandre as a leader shaped by his virtues, combining compassion, courage and commitment to public service. “He has earned respect through his qualities and dedication to society,” he said.

Bidar Urban Development Authority Chairman Basavaraj Jabashetty called upon people to strengthen Mr. Khandre’s hands, terming his elevation a matter of pride for the district.

Harkud Mutt seer Channaveera Shivacharya Swamiji said Mr. Khandre was a humble and courageous leader who had won people’s affection through his conduct and generosity. He wished him greater success in public life.

Former Minister Rajashekar Patil said the post of national president carried significant responsibility and noted that Mr. Khandre had already served as a four-time MLA from Bhalki and twice as a Minister. He expressed confidence that Mr. Khandre would strengthen the organisation across the State.

Seer Basavalinga Pattaddevaru of Bhalki Hiremath described Mr. Khandre as “a force rather than just an individual”, highlighting his initiatives, including plans to develop a large biological park in Bengaluru named after Basavanna and efforts towards community welfare such as student hostels.

Former MLA Ashok Kheny said the Mahasabha would emerge as a strong organisation under Mr. Khandre’s leadership.

Several other leaders and seers, including legislators Chandrakant Patil and Bhimarao Patil, also spoke on the occasion.

The programme witnessed the participation of thousands of supporters from across the region, with the venue packed to capacity, reflecting the wide support for Mr. Khandre within the community.
