Nithin Accusing the Left Democratic Front (LDF) of carrying out “a fake campaign” over the utilisation of the funds collected by the Congress to build houses for the landslide-displaced families at Mundakkai and Chooralmala in Wayanad, K.C. Venugopal, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and MP, on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) challenged the Kerala government to carry out an investigation into the allegations of wrongdoing. Addressing a press conference at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Venugopal said the houses the Congress party had promised to the families in the landslide-hit area will be completed “within six months of the United Democratic Front (UDF) coming to power.” He said that the death of a farmer, who was found hanging at a Communist Party of India (CPI) office in Vaikom on Tuesday, is not an isolated incident but “the latest example of how the anti-farmer policies” of the State government are affecting farmers. He said that even model farmers who have won awards are taking their own lives. Open letter to CM Mr. Venugopal also released ‘an open letter’ he wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in which he questioned Mr. Vijayan about the “agenda” of his closed-door meeting with Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Nirmala Sitharaman. “Were these meetings, in which he (the Chief Minister) avoided officials, meant for deal-making? Whose interests were he protecting when he decided to implement the PM Shri scheme in Kerala despite the opposition of the CPI?” asked Mr. Venugopal. The Congress leader alleged that as per the ‘progress report’ released by the Chief Minister, the LDF government took 10 years to complete 5 lakh houses, instead of five years as earlier promised. “The LDF promised to increase the welfare pension to ₹2,500, but it was ₹1,600 until four months ago, when they increased it to ₹2,000,” he pointed out. Mr. Venugopal alleged that the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Ltd (ULCCS) has gained a large number of contracts without proper tenders under the LDF government. “Uralungal is to Pinarayi Vijayan, just like Adani is to Narendra Modi. All major contracts are being awarded to the company, which has become the major source of money for the CPI(M),” he said. He expressed confidence that the UDF’s guarantees will propel it to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. He accused Mr. Vijayan of “turning the communist party into a corporate entity and turning the whole election campaign into a highly individualistic exercise focussed on himself.” Published – April 07, 2026 12:16 pm IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
