Risk allowance for police personnel should be fixed as an amount not less than a day’s salary, the Ernakulam (Rural) district meet of the Kerala Police Association (KPA) at Perumbavoor demanded on Wednesday. The association raised the demand in a resolution citing increasing incidents of safety risks faced by the police. “Incidents of people stalking and attacking police officials at their private spaces have been on the rise. The police have to frequently interact with those addicted to drugs, mentally disturbed people, and those with contagious sexual infections and often have to face attacks from them. The risk allowance should be hiked considering these facts,” the resolution said. The meet also demanded steps to appoint more female personnel at police stations for the effective implementation of projects for the welfare of women, children, and elderly people. District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K.S. Sudarshan inaugurated the meet chaired by KPA district president E.R. Athman. Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Jose was the chief guest.
