Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan on Monday (February 9, 2026) asked whether other leaders of the Congress and the party High Command were “in agreement” with Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan, who recently announced that the United Democratic (UDF) would accept support from the Jaamat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Kerala unit.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) ongoing northern region development rally, Vikasana Munneta Jatha, in Kozhikode, Mr. Govindan said the High Command should clarify its position on the matter.

“Samastha has already passed a resolution stating that communal discord should not be created. The Indian Union Muslim League should also make its stance clear on the issue,” the CPI(M) State secretary said. “The LDF has never formed political ties with communal forces, and it never will,” Mr. Govindan said.

Last week, Mr. Satheesan said the UDF would accept JIH’s support, noting that the organisation had clearly stated it did not endorse the idea of a theocratic State.

Mr. Govindan also referred to allegations raised by N.M. Raju, who is in charge of a financial institution facing investigation in the Sabarimala theft case. Mr. Govindan said that ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Raju had alleged that Anto Antony, MP, had taken ₹2 crore from him.

“Anto Antony claims that he took the money and returned it. However, the financial institution’s representative says that only ₹20 lakh has been returned. What was the mode of transaction? All aspects of this financial transaction should be investigated. The Congress should clarify its position on the issue,” he said.
