The chief election agent of V. Sivankutty, General Education Minister and LDF candidate in Nemom constituency, has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (EC) alleging suspicious movement of funds and unauthorised vehicles in Nemom constituency.

According to the complaint, large volumes of parcels were being delivered to the BJP election offices via postal and private cargo services. “We strongly suspect that these consignments may contain unaccounted cash intended for influencing voters and illegal electoral malpractice,” the complaint said. In Nemom, Mr. Sivankutty of the CPI(M) is up against Rajeev Chandrasekhar of the BJP and K.S. Sabarinadhan of the Congress.

Further, the complaint said there is a “notable surge” in the movement of vehicles with registration numbers from other states within the constituency. Mr. Sivankutty’s election agent said it was suspected that they were being used to transport liquid cash and other inducements from outside the state. He sought “swift and decisive action” by the EC so that all parcels arriving in political party offices within the constituency are immediately inspected by flying squads and static surveillance teams. Highway and border patrolling should also be tightened so that suspicious vehicles are intercepted and inspected, the complaint said.
