In the run-up to the Assembly polls in Kerala, an election learning management system, ‘eVidya,’ has been launched for providing standardised training to election officials. Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar launched the system, billed as the first e-learning platform of its kind in the country, here on Thursday. It is meant to be a comprehensive digital platform that streamlines the electoral exercise, Mr. Kelkar said. The eVidya ELMS provides an array of services and tools for election-related activities, equipping officials and other stakeholders with the resources and information they require for smooth functioning. “By using simple, precise language and uniform terminology, we can ensure that every polling official regardless of their location receives the same high standard of training,” Mr. Kelkar said. The eVidya ELMS ( https://lms.kerala.gov.in/) has been launched even as preparations are on in full swing for the April 9 Assembly elections, which will be held across 140 constituencies in Kerala. The digital initiative marks a shift in how officials are equipped with the knowledge and precision required for the seamless conduct of elections. Four to five-minute videos explaining the election procedures in simple terms, diagrams and flow charts, and an assessment quiz featuring multiple-choice questions for testing the knowledge of the officials are part of the learning programme. The portal has been designed in line with the latest guidelines of the Election Commission of India (EC) and the Handbook for Returning Officers. The platform was launched after a three-tier verification of the content by district and State-level master trainers and the CEO.
