Union Minister Kiren Rijiju asserted that the Centre is not against minorities while addressing a campaign rally in the Chelakkara Assembly constituency in support of the National Democratic Front (NDA) candidate K. Balakrishnan on Saturday.

Stating that he himself belongs to a minority community, Mr. Rijiju said the Narendra Modi government remains committed to the protection and welfare of minorities.

“The Centre is not against minorities. I am from a minority community myself. Our policies are aimed at safeguarding their rights and ensuring inclusive development,” he said.

The Union Minister added that the Centre is keen to implement several development projects in Kerala and had come to assure the people of that commitment. He alleged that many Central schemes are not effectively implemented in the State due to the absence of “good governance.”

Responding to concerns over the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) amendment, Mr. Rijiju said there is no need for concern among legally functioning organisations.

“Funds coming from abroad must be used for public welfare. The amendment will only affect those acting against national interest,” he clarified.
