The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has approached the Election Commission (EC) with a complaint alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is circulating a “malicious” AI-generated deepfake video targeting its candidate in the Haripad Assembly constituency, in what it described as a serious attempt to vitiate the electoral atmosphere ahead of the Kerala Assembly polls.

In a complaint submitted by UDF Election Committee Chairman Anil B. Kalathil, the front alleged that the BJP’s campaign machinery has been widely disseminating a fabricated video through social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Facebook. According to the complaint, the video has been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to falsely attribute communally sensitive statements to the UDF candidate, with the intent of triggering religious polarization and disturbing public harmony in the constituency.

Calling the development “serious and unprecedented,” the UDF urged the Election Commission to intervene urgently to safeguard the integrity of the election process. It stressed that the circulation of manipulated content represents a direct attempt to mislead voters and influence public opinion through orchestrated disinformation.
