The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre is targeting minority community members in a systematic manner and the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA) is the latest in the series of such incidents, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader Brinda Karat has said. She was speaking at a press conference in Ernakulam on Monday (March 30, 2026). “The Modi government has brought a law which is deliberately targeting certain communities. Under the BJP-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) rule, there is a siege against the minority communities,” said Ms. Karat. She added that Muslims were being targeted and their livelihood was being affected. “The Christians and Dalits are under attack. Any attack on any community in the name of religion will never be tolerated,” she added. The Hindutva ideology had nothing to do with the religion and it was rebuilding the caste system in new ways in the country, she said. She hailed “the alternative policies” and governance of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government as a model to the rest of the country. “We are facing a situation in our country where the Constitution is being bulldozed by the Narendra Modi government. We have seen attacks on minorities, revival of the caste system and attacks on Adivasi rights in all BJP-ruled States,” she said. In such a situation, the Kerala path, which was developed by the LDF, was extremely valuable for the people of Kerala. “We are confident that we will be getting a resounding ‘yes’ from the people and the voters of Kerala on the basis of the development in Kerala in the past 10 years,” she added. Dismissing any anti-incumbency sentiments, she said that the LDF would once again be able to form the government in the State.
