P.V. Anvar, United Democratic Front (UDF)-backed Independent candidate from Beypore Assembly constituency, and P.K. Firos, UDF nominee from Koduvally, have four namesakes against them. The Koduvally Assembly constituency has the highest number of candidates in the fray at 17. This was revealed after scrutiny process of the nomination papers for the Assembly election was completed on Tuesday. However, the number of candidates may come down further as the last date for withdrawing the nominations falls on Thursday. In Beypore, apart from Mr. Anvar, there is one Anwar Ali Hassan, and three more Anvers, all Independents. His rival, Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas has one Mohammed Riyas P.C. against him. Mr. Firos’ opponents include one Firoz Muhammed, one Firoz, and two Firoses. In Kozhikode South, however, there are no namesake candidates and the total number of candidates is just four: T. Raneesh, Ahammad Devarkovil, Faisal Babu, and Hameed. A total of 141 candidates had filed 223 nomination papers in the district.
