Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Another Twenty20 candidate’s name missing from voters’ list

National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) ally Twenty20 faced another setback on Thursday after it came to light that the name of actor Veena Nair, its candidate in Ettumanur, is missing from the voters’ list.

The launch of the party’s campaigning in the Perumbavoor segment had to be called off on Wednesday as the name of its candidate and actor Lakshmipriya was found missing from the voters’ list. The reports of Ms. Nair’s name missing from the voters’ list emerged by Thursday afternoon. Sabu M. Jacob, chief co-ordinator of Twenty20, said that the party would field a new candidate in Ettumanur. He said Jibi Pathikkal would be the new candidate in Perumbavoor.

Ms. Nair said that she had cast her vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in the local body elections held for the Changanassery municipality [2015]. “I was under the impression that my name will be on the voters’ list. But it was known only on Thursday morning that my name was missing. I told the Twenty20 leadership that it will be better to field another candidate as a last-minute hiccup would result in the party not having a candidate in Ettumanur,” she said.
