The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take necessary steps to restore the century-old government schools in the State. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Purushothama Bilimale, chairman of KDA, said, “There are over 3,200 government schools which have completed 100 years. There is a need for special initiative to renovate these schools”. The KDA has requested the Chief Minister to consider strengthening Kannada-medium aided schools by considering financial assistance and providing guest teachers to those schools in the upcoming State Budget. “Around 1,000 private Kannada medium aided schools are waiting for funds from the government, and the School Education Department has also prepared a report calculating that ₹922 crore is needed to provide grants for those schools,” he said.
