‘Kathanar’ trailer: Jayasurya’s anticipated fantasy thriller promises stunning visuals

The trailer for the much-awaited Malayalam fantasy film Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer, starring Jayasurya, was unveiled on Tuesday (March 31, 2026).

The film, directed by Rojin Thomas and produced by Gokulam Gopalan, also features South Indian actress Anushka Shetty, marking her debut in Malayalam cinema.

Other actors in the ensemble cast include Prabhudeva, Sanoop San, Sandy, Devika, Niteesh Bharadwaj, Vineeth, Harish Uthaman, Srikanth Murali and Kulprit Yadav.

The trailer boasts stunning visuals set on a grand canvas.

The film is written by R Ramanand and Rojin, who also handles the editing. Neil D’Cunha serves as the cinematographer while Aji Kuttiyani and Ramprasad helm Kathanar’s art direction.

Kathanar, based on the stories about Kadamattathu Kathanar, an ordained deacon from the 9th century with magical powers, will be released in 15 languages. Its exact release date is yet to be announced.

Jayasurya was last seen in Aadu 3, the penultimate movie from the comedy franchise, which is running successfully in theatres.

Kathanar marks Rojin’s fourth directorial venture. His last release was #Home, which came out in 2021.

Anushka was last seen in the 2025 Telugu-language action crime drama Ghaati.
