Old buildings at the Karaparamba fish market and Puthiyangadi market are in need of urgent action, an inspection by a team of engineers under the Kozhikode Corporation has found. The inspection followed the recent death of four labourers at Valiyangadi after the sunshade of an old building crashed on them. A release said on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) that steps would be taken to immediately evict the occupants of the old buildings at Karaparamba fish market and Puthiyangadi market. A report of the team of engineers would be placed before the Corporation council for suitable action. The teams have so far completed the inspection of 12 age-old buildings within the city to check their fitness. The official action began two days ago, and it will be completed by Thursday (February 26, 2026). The buildings are being classified into stable buildings, those which can be retained by repair works, and others in need of urgent action. Corporation secretary N.K. Hareesh said that all the buildings under the local body would be examined soon.
