Second-rung leaders, however, told The Hindu that they have “not been involved”, so far, in the discussions with the DMK, but added that the party would “surely” contest the upcoming Assembly elections. The party has reportedly identified 78 constituencies where it performed well in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 Assembly elections. “We are definitely contesting in the Assembly elections… the negotiations are happening in the background,” said an MNM leader.
