Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate a bronze statue of Kalingarayan and a library named after him through video conferencing here on Sunday (January 18, 2026) at around 9 a.m., said Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Erode South District DMK Secretary, S. Muthusamy. In a press release, the Minister said that in recognition of Kalingarayan, hailed as a pioneer of river water inter-linking, a land had been purchased near the Rasa temple at Vellode in Chennimalai Union, where a full-length bronze statue measuring seven feet has been erected. A library bearing Kalingarayan’s name has been established beneath the statue. It houses books on the history of Kalingarayan as well as reference materials useful for candidates preparing for competitive examinations. The Minister has appealed to Kalingarayan’s descendants, farmers, the general public, special invitees, local body representatives, and office-bearers of the DMK, besides representatives of the INDIA alliance and leaders of all political parties, to participate in large numbers and make the event a success.
