Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply and the DMK principal secretary K.N. Nehru was among those who filed their nominations papers for the Assembly elections in Tiruchi district on Monday, the first day for filing nominations.

Mr. Nehru filed his papers for the Tiruchi West constituency before the Revenue Divisional Officer and Returning Officer Salai Thavavalan. Functionaries of the DMK and alliance partners were present.

Mr. Nehru, 73, who is entering the fray in the constituency for the sixth consecutive election since 2006, declared moveable assets to the tune of about ₹1.25 crore in his name and about ₹2.39 crore in the name of his spouse.

In an affidavit filed along with his nomination papers, Mr. Nehru had declared self-acquired immovable assets worth about ₹1.17 crore at current market price and inherited assets valued at about ₹12.57 lakh. The value of the immovable assets in his spouse name was ₹1.50 crore at current market price, the affidavit said. He had no liabilities. No criminal case was pending against him, according to the affidavit.

In a brief interaction after filing the nominations, Mr. Nehru expressed confidence that the people had faith in the promises made by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and fully support the DMK alliance. To a question on actor Vijay contesting from Tiruchi East, Mr. Nehru said the constituency had long been a stronghold of the DMK.

Apart from Mr. Nehru, K. Bhuvaneswari of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and a couple of Independents filed the papers.

The DMK candidate for Manachanallur constituency and MLA S. Kathiravan also filed his nomination papers. He had declared movable assets worth ₹37.38 crore in his name, ₹14.90 crore in his wife’s name and ₹4 crore in his son’s name. He had declared immovable assets (self acquired and inherited) worth about ₹44.50 crore in his name at current value, about ₹31 crore in his spouse name and about ₹21.72 crore in his son’s name. He had liabilities to the tune of ₹16.80 crore. His wife K. Ananthalakshmi filed her nomination as the DMK dummy.

The NTK candidates V.Krishnasamy (Tiruchi East), T.Rajesh (Tiruverumbur), M. Dharmaraj (Srirangam), M. Arunagiri (Manapparai), G. Bakiyalakshmi (Musiri), N. Madhan (Lalgudi), S. Kowsalya (Thuraiyur), and R. Thenmozhi (Manachanallur) filed their nomination papers.

L. Joseph (Tiruverumbur) and M. Malarmannan (Musiri) of Samaniya Makkal Katchi filed their papers. K. Sakthivel of Anna Puratchi Thalaivar Amma Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam filed his nomination for Srirangam while E. Yesudoss of Tamilaga Makkal Nala Katchi filed his papers for Lalgudi.

Actor A. Mansoor Ali Khan filed his nomination as an Independent for the Lalgudi Assembly constituency. Three other Independents, including two for Tiruchi West and one for Tiruverumbur, filed their papers today.

In Perambalur

Naam Tamilar Katchi nominee Janci Rani filed her nomination papers in Perambalur (SC) Assembly constituency on Monday. The party member Kavitha filed her papers as a dummy candidate. Besides this, two independents filed their papers at the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer in Perambalur.

Naam Tamilar Katchi nominee Keerthivasan filed the papers for the Kunnam Assembly constituency. The party member Ramar filed the papers as a dummy candidate for the same constituency at the Kunnam taluk office.
