On Monday, the Chief Medical Officer of Delhi took cognisance of the matter. According to the student group, around 5 jackals were found dead in the last two weeks. A statement released by JNUSU said the students had called a non-profit organisation, WildlifeSOS, after they discovered another dead jackal on Saturday. The body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death. “A disease outbreak among jackals increases the potential risk of zoonoses [animal to man diseases] through contaminated water and waste,” the statement added. The union also asked students to inform them about more such jackal deaths.
