Jawahirullah on Saturday urged the Union government to withdraw the recent ₹60 increase in the price of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders, stating that the move would impose an additional burden on the public. In a statement, he said the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder had been increased by ₹60 from March 7, 2026, leading to a significant rise in cylinder prices in cities, including Chennai. The price of 19-kg commercial cylinders had also been increased by ₹115. The hike would affect small businesses such as restaurants, eateries, and tea stalls and could lead to a rise in food prices, he said. Mr. Jawahirullah said the Union government had maintained that there was no shortage of fuel in the country, and therefore citing tensions in West Asia to justify the increase was unacceptable.
