Senior Congress leader T. Jagga Reddy claimed that the misconduct of the police had provoked him to be aggressive at a polling booth in Sangareddy. He said his response was due to the humiliation of the Congress workers by a police inspector during the municipal polls. In response to a police case booked against him for being abusive with the police, he said that a Circle Inspector had allegedly detained, dragged and assaulted a Congress leader near a polling booth. The police officer humiliated the party worker in public while allegedly acting in favour of an opposition party candidate, he alleged. “I went to the polling booth only because my party worker was publicly insulted and assaulted by the inspector,” he stated. He added that while he could have lodged a complaint with senior police officials but such a step would not undo the humiliation suffered by his party worker in front of people. The Congress leader further said that if either the police officer or he himself had violated election rules, authorities were free to take action as per law. “The judiciary will decide who is right and who is wrong,” he said. Meanwhile, Mr. Reddy alleged that leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), including K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, were repeatedly circulating the incident on social media, accusing him of attacking officials. He countered the allegations by recalling past instances in which BRS leaders had allegedly abused and assaulted police personnel. “Before commenting on me, BRS social media should answer for the actions and language used earlier by their leaders against police officers,” he said.
