HYDERABAD

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president and former MLA T. Jagga Reddy defended the Congress party’s national record, asserting that its governments had strengthened welfare systems, transparency, and key public institutions over several decades.

In a statement on Saturday, he said that the Congress-led UPA, under Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and Rahul Gandhi, had expanded employment opportunities for the poor, especially through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), which he credited with improving the financial security of low-income families.

On Telangana, Mr. Jagga Reddy said that both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi honoured the region’s aspirations by supporting the creation of a separate state, even at the political cost in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He noted that institutions like IIT Hyderabad in Sangareddy were approved during the UPA tenure.

Urging citizens to consider the historical contributions of successive Congress governments, he emphasised the need to make him the Prime Minister.
