YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has condemned the murder of Dalit party activist Manda Salman at Pinnelli village of Gurazala Assembly constituency in Palnadu district.

Expressing anguish over the incident, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in a statement on Friday, alleged that law and order in Andhra Pradesh had deteriorated.

The murder reflected the growing intolerance and political vendetta being unleashed by the TDP leaders, the former Chief Minister alleged. “Attacks on the YSRCP leaders and cadres have become routine,” he alleged, and accused the police of colluding with the ruling party. Members of the marginalised and weaker sections were being deliberately targeted as part of vindictive politics, he alleged.

The YSRCP chief spoke over the phone with the brother of the victim and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. He also assured him that the YSRCP would stand by their side and provide all support.

“Once YSRCP returns to power, stringent action will be taken against those responsible,” Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said.

During the conversation, Salman’s family members informed the YSRCP president about the alleged intimidation by the TDP leaders in the village. They also complained that the police were filing false cases against the YSRCP cadres. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the party workers not to lose courage.

Gurazala YSRCP in-charge and former MLA Kasu Mahesh also brought to Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s notice the alleged harassment of party workers.
