Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal has said that the party deserved to contest more seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Speaking to media persons in Kozhikode on Sunday (January 4, 2025), Mr. Thangal said the IUML would retain its existing seats and that there was no move to exchange seats. “The League wishes to retain its current seats and considering the results of the local body elections, we deserve to contest more seats in the Assembly polls,” he said, expressing hope that the Congress would acknowledge this.

Later, addressing the IUML representatives elected from Kozhikode district in the three-tier local body polls, Mr. Thangal said that hard work and strong willpower were the reasons behind the party’s success. “The IUML’s success in the local body polls was the result of the tireless efforts of party workers. The party has played the semi-final [local body polls] well and now needs to score goals in the final,” he said, referring to the Assembly elections.
