Iranian officials arrived in Pakistan for peace talks on Saturday (April 11, 2026) with the United States as Tehran insisted on a truce in Lebanon and unfreezing of its assets for the negotiations to go ahead. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday (April 10, 2026) warned Iran not to “play” the U.S. as he headed to Islamabad.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a televised address to his nation on Friday (April 10, 2026), described the talks as a “make-or-break moment” for the two sides.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to have the Strait of Hormuz open “with or without” Iran’s cooperation and said his top priority at the Islamabad talks was to ensure the Islamic republic cannot have a nuclear weapon.
