Punjab struck first in the 12th minute through Daniel Ramirez, who calmly finished from close range after receiving a cross from Mohammad Uvais. Bagan responded strongly and found the equaliser in the 29th as Jamie Maclaren capitalised on a clever assist from Robson Robinho. In the second half, even as the contest reach a higher tempo, Punjab regained the lead at the hour-mark through Nigerian forward Nsungusi Effiong, who volleyed home a precise delivery from compatriot Bede Osuji. Bagan looked in trouble as the clock ticked past the 70-minute mark, but head coach Sergio Lobera made crucial changes to the attack.
