Iran-Israel conflict LIVE: Israel launches fresh strikes on Iran missile, air defence sites

The Israeli military said it launched a wave of strikes targeting Iranian ballistic missile and air defence sites on Sunday (March 1, 2026). Israeli forces began “an additional strike wave targeting the ballistic missile array and the aerial defence systems belonging to the Iranian terror regime”, a military statement said.

The United States and Israel defended their attacks on Iran, which called resulting civilian deaths a “war crime” during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. Referencing Iran’s recent deadly crackdowns on protesters, U.S. ambassador Mike Waltz said that Iran’s presence at Saturday’s emergency meeting in New York “makes a mockery of this body.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted the Israeli Defence Ministry and military bases among other targets with a fresh wave of strikes late on Saturday (February 28, 2026). Israel’s emergency service Magen David Adom said on Saturday (February 28, 2026) that a woman was killed in the Tel Aviv area after Iran fired a barrage of missiles towards Israel.

A major attack launched by Israel and the United States killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday (February 28, 2026), announcing an assassination that he said gave Iranians their “greatest chance” to “take back” their country but that also put the future of the Islamic Republic in doubt and raised the risk of regional instability.

Iran did not immediately confirm the death.
