A procession underway ahead of the inauguration of the 39th AIU Inter-University South-West Zone Youth Festival, at JSS AHER in Mysuru on Monday. | Photo Credit: M.A. Sriram The 39th Inter-University South-West Zone Youth Festival (UNIFEST) — YUVOTSAVA 2026, organised by JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, began at JSS AHER on Monday. Vibrant cultural performances, including Garba and theme-based dances showcasing unity in diversity, were presented by students of various constituent colleges of JSS AHER, ahead of the inaugural event. H. Basavanagowdappa, Vice-Chancellor, JSS AHER, in his welcome address, emphasised the importance of youth festivals in nurturing creativity, cultural harmony, and national integration. The dignitaries then jointly lit the ceremonial lamp and released the official brochure of the 39th AIU Fest. Vishal Kumar Gupta, dean (academics), JSS AHER, and organising secretary of the event, briefed the gathering about the Youth Festival, highlighting its objectives, scale, and the diverse cultural competitions planned. Actor and theatre personality K. Suchendra Prasad, who was the chief guest, advised students to remain rooted in culture while striving for excellence. This was followed by addresses from Bala Lakhendra, AIU observer, and Prof. Bhawna Grover, AIU technical observer. As the guest of honour, B. Suresh, Pro-Chancellor, JSS AHER, spoke about the significance of hosting the mega youth festival and expressed his gratitude to the AIU for reposing confidence in JSS AHER to organise the 39th AIU Fest. He encouraged students to actively participate in such cultural platforms, emphasising their role in overall holistic development alongside academic excellence. C.G. Betsurmath, executive secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, who presided, highlighted the role of youth engagement through arts and culture in nation-building. B. Manjunatha, registrar, JSS AHER, was present. The five-day festival, scheduled from February 9 to 13, will witness participation from universities across the South-West Zone.
