The Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri is gearing up for the ‘Maha Kumbhabhishekam’, a sacred ritual mandated by the ‘Agama Sastras’ to be performed every 12 years.

This spiritual tradition, known as ‘Dwadasa Varsha Niyamam’, involves the gathering of holy waters from India’s most prominent rivers and the seven seas. These waters are sanctified through Vedic chants in the ‘Yagashala’ before being poured over the temple’s golden ‘kalasam’, which is believed to house the essence of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and Lord Brahma.

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivnath, temple Vaidic Committee members, Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik and others addressed a press conference in this regard, on Tuesday.

The three-day ceremony will commence on March 6, with the initial entry into the Yagasala at 8 a.m.. The first day will feature ‘Ganapathi Puja’, ‘Punyaha Vachanam’, and the commencement of ‘Deeksha’, followed by the ‘Agni Pratisthapana’ and ‘Moola Mantra Havanam’ in the evening. On the second day, the focus will shift to the ‘Kalasasthapana’ using the gathered sacred waters, along with specialised ‘Peetha Pujas’ during the ‘Pradoshakala’ and continuous Vedic recitations.

The third and final day will witness the main events. Following the early morning ‘Mantapa Pujas’ and the ‘Purnahuti’, the main Kumbhabhishekam will be performed exactly at 9.34 a.m. during the auspicious ‘Mesha Lagnam’. This main event will be conducted under the direct supervision of Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadhipathi Sri Sri Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamy. After the ritualistic bathing of the ‘Vimana Gopuram’, the seer will deliver a spiritual discourse at Kalavedika located in Rajagopuram premises to bless the gathered devotees.
