Murugan on Saturday (January 31, 2026) said India’s media industry is undergoing a rapid transformation. The journey has moved from traditional platforms to digital media, and now into an AI-based media era, he said. Speaking at BES Expo 2026, the Minister said technology has completely changed the way content is created, distributed, and consumed. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in WAVES 2025, he said the government’s goal is to encourage “Create in India, Create for the World”. Mr. Murugan said India’s creative strength and technological capability were gaining recognition on the global stage. He spoke about skill-building initiatives taken by the government, including the setting up the Indian Institute of Creative Technology, and measures taken for the further expansion of the industry. With over 800 operational FM stations in the country, the Minister noted that private FM is expanding into Tier-3 cities, and community radio stations are strengthening local voices, emphasising the role of media as a tool for inclusive development.
