The Central government on Tuesday informed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court that the Indian Embassy in Iran was taking necessary steps to render assistance to Indians stranded in Iran. Helpline numbers and e-mail IDs are being circulated. With regard to evacuation, it was beyond the hands of the authorities as Iran had closed its airports and ports for all ingress and egress. The Embassy will render the best possible assistance to Indians, the Centre told Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy. The court was hearing a batch of petitions seeking a direction to the Centre to rescue two Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu who were stranded in Iran following the conflict in West Asia. The petitioners sought the direction to the Centre to bring the fishermen back to India safely.
