The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday (March 5, 2026) dismissed claims made by former U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor that the United States is using Indian naval bases to attack Iran.

Amidst the ongoing Iran-U.S. conflict, Mr. Macgregor claimed on the U.S.-based channel One America News Network that the U.S. Navy was using Indian ports to strike Iran. However, the MEA cautioned against “such baseless and fabricated comments” in a post on X.

A U.S. submarine attacked an Iranian warship, which sank in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sri Lanka, on Wednesday (March 4, 2026), bringing the West Asian conflict closer to the Indian subcontinent. At least 83 people were killed in the torpedo attack.
