The Karaikudi incumbent MLA S. Mangudi is contesting again on behalf of the Congress party in the Karaikudi constituency. Mr. Mangudi, the resident of Sankarapuram in Sivaganga district, is a staunch supporter of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram, MP. In the last election, contesting on Congress ticket in the Karaikudi Assembly constituency, he won with a margin of 21,589 votes against the BJP candidate H. Raja. He served as the president of Sankarapuram Panchayat from 2006 to 2016. In 2013, he was the Congress Assembly Constituency In-charge; from 2016 to 2021, he was the District Vice President; and in 2021, he became a member of the All India Congress Committee and a member of the State General Council. He served as the MLA from 2021 to 2026.
