For the first time since taking charge as BJP national president, Nitin Nabin on Tuesday attended the ongoing Budget Session of the Bihar Assembly. He asserted that the State’s image has improved substantially since the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Nitish Kumar has come to power. Mr. Nabin, 45, has retained his membership of the House as a five-time MLA from Bankipore constituency in Patna district even though he stepped down as Cabinet Minister. “I remember my days as a student when I had not dreamt of entering politics and can recall the image crisis Bihar suffered from those days. But ever since the NDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assumed power, the image of the State improved substantially and Bihar is now being treated with respect,” he said in the Assembly. Opposition members had staged a walkout from the Assembly before Mr. Nabin’s arrival, exiting carrying placards blaming the government for the spurt in incidents of crime against women in the State and other daily incidents of crime. In the Legislative Council, Chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh suspended several Opposition members for the day for ignoring requests to maintain order as they demanded the CM’s resignation over “rising cases” of crime against women.
