The Indian Medical Association Andhra Pradesh unit has appealed to all registered doctors to exercise their franchise in the elections to choose 13 members of the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council, scheduled to be held on February 9. In a press note issued on Saturday, February 7, IMA A.P. president Sangaraju Balaraju and general secretary M. Subash Chandra Bose welcomed the State government’s decision to conduct the elections, which are being held after a gap of more than two decades. They said the association expects the newly elected council to work towards strengthening medical education in the State, ensuring the welfare of doctors and preventing unqualified medical practice. The IMA expressed its support to the council in achieving these objectives. The association also clarified that no panel is contesting on behalf of the IMA and that it remains unbiased with regard to the candidates in the fray.
