IGBC regional chapters promoting energy-efficient buildings and sustainable practices in Karnataka.

Regional chapters of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) are promoting the construction of eco-friendly green buildings around the State.

The Belagavi Chapter, for example, is leading the trend of industrial units adopting the IGBC norms.

These projects highlight the growing adoption of energy-efficient industrial buildings, resource conservation measures, precast construction, and waste-minimisation techniques, reinforcing the role of green factories and industrial hubs in Karnataka’s Net Zero and decarbonisation journey.

“The IGBC Belagavi Chapter has facilitated multiple projects, covering 2.947 million sq. ft,” Chaitanya Kulkarni, chairman, IGBC Belagavi Chapter, said in a release.

They include the Rail Soudha, which houses the headquarters of the South Western Railway in Hubballi, the KPCL Office building, and private units like the Gold Plus Float Glass Pvt. Ltd. factory.

“Belagavi’s progress demonstrates that industrial regions can be at the forefront of green construction and Net Zero transitions, contributing meaningfully to Karnataka’s climate-resilient growth,” said Mr. Kulkarni.

Other chapters in Mysuru and Mangaluru have earned similar achievements. The IGBC Mysuru Chapter has certified projects, covering 7.535 million sq. ft.

These projects exemplify integrated green strategies — solar energy adoption, rainwater harvesting, efficient water management, passive design, and certified green materials — creating replicable models for mid-sized cities transitioning toward low-carbon, climate-resilient urban futures.

The IGBC Mangaluru Chapter accounts for multiple projects spanning 4.678 million sq. ft.

With a strong focus on coastal resilience, waste management, durable materials, and renewable energy integration, these projects address the unique environmental challenges of Karnataka’s coastal belt, demonstrating how sustainability and resilience can be embedded into high-growth urban and mixed-use developments.

These were announced in the Green Karnataka Summit held in Bengaluru recently, said the release.
