Members of the Kalaburagi District Hotel, Bakery and Lodge Owners Association have reported a severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders that is making it difficult to run their businesses.

They say the shortage of commercial cylinders is affecting their business badly and have warned of protests if the district administration and the State government do not act quickly.

Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi on Monday, president of the association Narasimha Mendon and member Satyanath Shetty said that the shortage of commercial cylinders is being linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia but the burden is falling heavily on small and medium businesses in the city.

Mr. Shetty said that as per government norms, establishments are entitled to receiving 70% of their required commercial LPG supply.

“However, we are not receiving even that. This raises concerns about whether such provisions are being implemented only in Bengaluru,” he asked.

Mr. Shetty said that gas agencies are failing to supply cylinders despite repeated requests and that there has been no response from the district administration though representations have been submitted.
