In an alleged honour killing, a 22-year-old woman was strangled to death allegedly by her father in Macherla town in Palnadu district, Andhra Pradesh.

The victim, Choudeswari, had died on March 18, 2026 and was initially suspected to be death by suicide, but the post-mortem report which came out on Saturday (April 4, 2026), indicated that it was not a suicide.

According to sources, Chowdeswari, a native Yadava Bazar in Macherla Town, Palnadu district, fell in love with one Nagaraju, of Jammalamadaka, of the same district. However, her family members fixed her marriage with another person. On March 4, she escaped from her home and reportedly married Nagaraju.

Choudeswari’s father, Chandra Sreenu, lodged a ‘woman missing’ complaint with the Macherla police. After week days, the family members even staged a protest in front of the police station alleging inaction of the police in tracing the missing woman.

On March 18, police brought the newly wed couple and during enquiry, Choudeswari said she was a major and the marriage was performed with her consent. When the community elders tried to counsel the bride, Choudeswari said she want to go with her husband and stay with him. However, the police reportedly sent the woman with her parents, and the bride groom with his family members.

On March 18, Chandra Sreenu, along with another person, allegedly strangled his daughter to death when she was asleep and later fabricated a scenario as if she had died by suicide. Police took Chandra Sreenu into custody, and investigation is on.
