Italian and Japanese consulates in Bengaluru received hoax bomb threat emails from the same email id on January 29.

While security agencies swung into action and carried out anti-sabotage checks, both turned out to be a hoax. The emails were sent from the id gaina_ramesh@outlook.com.

Officials from both consulates lodged complaints, based on which the Ulsoor and Vidhana Soudha police have registered separate cases.

According to the complaint, Giandomenico Milano, 45, the Consul General of the Italian Consulate, located on Richmond Road, reported the incident through the consulate’s Security Officer, Cosimo Ciciriello. The complaint was physically submitted at the police station on January 30. The consulate received an email on January 29 at 5.25 a.m., to their official IDs, which warned: “5 RDX to blast in Italy Consulate, Bengaluru at 1 PM. Evacuate Diplomats by 10 AM!”

The Japanese consulate received a similar email from the same email ID at 5.32 a.m. The Vidhana Soudha police initially registered a non-cognizable case and later obtained due permission from the 41st Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court and registered an FIR.

It can be recalled that the Consulate of Israel received a similar hoax bomb threat email in October, 2025.
