The Government Railway Police arrested a history-sheeter involved in a series of robberies targeting women passengers on suburban trains between Perungudi and Velachery, and recovered 16 sovereigns of stolen gold jewellery. The police said the accused — Vijayragavan, 26, of Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district — was involved in six robbery cases, registered between 2022 and 2024. The cases were linked to chain-snatching incidents reported by women on trains along the Perungudi-Velachery stretch. Special teams were formed to trace the suspect and he was arrested near a TASMAC outlet in Perungudi.
