Hippo ‘Hamsini’ that attacked a veterinarian is in critical condition in Shivamogga Zoo

Hamsini, the pregnant hippopotamus which attacked a young veterinarian at Tyavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari in Shivamogga and caused her death last month, is in critical condition following intrauterine foetal death.

The wildlife veterinarians treating the animal opined that the animal is in an infectious condition involving multiple organs. They suspect the origin of the infection could be the intrauterine foetal death, according to V.M. Amarakshara, Executive Director of the Zoo.
