Revered as “Hind Di Chadar,” Guru Tegh Bahadur stands as an enduring symbol of faith, courage, valor, and tolerance. To honor his unparalleled sacrifice and preserve his legacy for future generations, the State Government has launched the initiative titled “Hind Di Chadar” in three phases. This program seeks to carry the message and teachings of this great spiritual leader to citizens across Maharashtra, throughout the nation, and among global communities. It also aims to strengthen the bonds of social harmony and inspire the younger generation by acquainting them with his life, ideals, and unwavering commitment to freedom of belief. As part of this initiative, the State Government is organizing the 350th Shaheedi Samagam across the state to commemorate his martyrdom. Through these events, the government endeavors to instill in the hearts of youth the timeless values of sacrifice, bravery, and the protection of religious freedom principles that Guru Tegh Bahadur upheld with his life. On the occasion of this 350th commemorative year, the State Government pays its heartfelt tribute to his unparalleled contribution and reaffirms its resolve to carry his message of ideals to every household. Through this initiative, efforts are being made to bring together communities that share historical, cultural, and spiritual ties with Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji such as the Sikh, Sikligar, Banjara, Labana, Sindhi, Mohyal, Valmiki, and Udasi communities, as well as the Bhagta Namdev (Warkari) tradition on a common platform. After 350 years, this marks a sincere effort to revive and strengthen these historic bonds. The program structure includes spiritual discourses, kirtan, historical exhibitions, educational presentations, and community dialogues. Various activities will highlight Guru Ji’s life, work, teachings, and sacrifice. Special emphasis has been placed on reaching school and college students, explaining the historical significance of his martyrdom and its connection with constitutional values freedom of religion, equality, and justice. “Hind Di Chadar”: A Living Memory of an Extraordinary Sacrifice “Hind Di Chadar” is not merely a title, but a living remembrance of an unparalleled sacrifice in Indian history. The ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, is honored with this title, meaning the protective shield of Hindustan. The word “Chadar” symbolizes protection, support, and compassionate warmth. Just as a chadar shields the body, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji offered his head to safeguard religious freedom. This title thus embodies his supreme sacrifice and stands as an unbreakable moral shield for Indian civilization. In the seventeenth century, India was passing through a period of religious and social instability. According to historical accounts and tradition, Kashmiri Pandits sought Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s protection to preserve their faith. His stand was not for a single community alone, but for the defense of human dignity and freedom of belief. His resolute opposition to injustice is regarded as one of the most courageous acts in Indian history. He was martyred at Chandni Chowk in Delhi. His sacrifice infused renewed moral strength into society and affirmed that religion is not merely ritual, but the very essence of freedom, self-respect, and humanity. His martyrdom in defense of another’s faith remains unparalleled and is remembered in the spirit of “Chardi Kala” the enduring ethos of optimism and resilience in the face of adversity. A Guiding Beacon for Humanity “Fear none, and frighten none” this message is clearly reflected in his life. This principle transcends any single religion and shows humanity the path of fearlessness. In modern times, his sacrifice serves as a guiding beacon in discussions on human rights and religious freedom. The land of Maharashtra, shaped by the valorous legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the teachings of saints, has consistently upheld interfaith harmony and justice. Organizing the “Hind Di Chadar” commemoration in such a land reaffirms unity in diversity. This initiative strengthens constitutional values and mutual respect. It symbolizes equality, compassion, and selfless service, with volunteers from all communities participating. The broader objective of this initiative is to promote social harmony, inter-community understanding, and remembrance of shared heritage. Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s sacrifice was not confined to one religion; it was for the protection of universal human values. The Shaheedi Samagam has therefore been organized to ensure that his glorious legacy reaches everyone. This is not merely a one-day event but a comprehensive effort to spread his teachings across villages, settlements, and communities. The State Government has undertaken the task of introducing students to the history of the Sikh Gurus. The unifying and humanitarian teachings of Guru Nanak brought society together, and carrying forward that same tradition, this program seeks to unite all sections of society. “This is a company press release that is not part of editorial content.
